ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The city government on Tuesday, May 12, celebrated its 75th Charter Day with a thanksgiving Mass at the Roxas City Metropolitan Cathedral as one of the highlights of the celebration.
The simple activity was led by Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas and other city officials.
On Sunday afternoon, May 10, the Philippine national men’s basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, held an exhibition game against Rxs Flyers at the newly renovated Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center here.
The event was organized by the Roxas City government in celebration of the city’s 75th charter anniversary on May 12.
By virtue of Executive Order 438 and pursuant to Section 88 of Republic Act 603, or the Roxas City Charter, then-President Elpidio Quirino announced May 12, 1951, as the date of the organization of the City of Roxas.
The bill that created Roxas City was sponsored by Ramon Acuña Arnaldo, then representative of the 1st District of Capiz.
It was signed into law by Quirino on April 11, 1951.
The new city was named after President Manuel Acuña Roxas, the most illustrious son of Capiz, who died of a heart attack three years earlier at the age of 56.

Man wanted for child abuse surrenders

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A man wanted for child abuse voluntarily surrendered to the Roxas City Police Station on Monday afternoon, May 11, 2026.
Police identified the suspect as alias Frank, 25, of Sitio Mason, Barangay Banica here.
He was charged with child abuse under Section 10(a) of Republic Act 7610.
The warrant of arrest was issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Joan Marie B. Bargas-Betita of Branch 14 in Roxas City, Capiz, on May 8, 2026.
The court recommended PHP 80,000 bail for his temporary liberty.
He is under the custody of the Roxas City police for proper disposition and court referral.
Meanwhile, three individuals were arrested by police Monday afternoon, May 11, after they were caught in the act of playing “tong-its” in Barangay Inzo Arnaldo Village here.
Police identified the suspects as alias Jonathan, 64, a security guard and resident of Westlake, Barangay Dayao, Roxas City; alias Carlito, 69; and alias Elmer, 52, both residents of Barangay Inzo Arnaldo Village, Roxas City.
Recovered from the suspects were playing cards, a table, chairs, and PHP 674 in bets.
The suspects are under the custody of the Roxas City police for proper disposition.
