ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A barangay kagawad of Barangay Dayao in this city died after the Mitsubishi Pajero he was driving went out of control and hit 11 bollards and a solar lamp post along the diversion road in Barangay Calangcang, Makato, Aklan, on Thursday afternoon, June 11.
Raphael “Chad” del Rosario, 51, of Barangay Dayao, died while being treated at St. Gabriel Medical Center in Kalibo, Aklan.
Police Capt. Vincent Kenneth Mercader, Makato police chief, said del Rosario may have fallen asleep while driving alone or may have suffered a medical emergency.
Based on accounts from residents in the area, the vehicle was traveling from Caticlan town to Roxas City when the crash happened along the diversion road.
Police said the Pajero also hit a multicab parked along the road before it overturned.
Responders and police found del Rosario lying on the ground beside his vehicle when they arrived.
Police said the vehicle was wrecked.
The crash happened at about 4:10 p.m., and del Rosario was declared dead at the hospital at 4:30 p.m. due to fatal injuries to his left chest and left jaw.
Del Rosario was the brother-in-law of incumbent Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas and a nephew of former Capiz Gov. Antonio del Rosario.
