Roxas City in Capiz celebrated its 70th Charter Anniversary on May 12, 2021.
The occasion marks the day when El Pueblo de Capiz or Capiz Town was formally elevated to City Status through Republic Act 603, signed by President Elpidio Quirino in 1951.
Through the Republic Act, Capiz town was also named after its most illustrious son, President Manuel Acuña Roxas who died in Clark Airfield only a few years earlier. Since then, the town took on the name Roxas City.

As part of the simple celebration of the city’s founding anniversary, a mass was held at the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral officiated by Msgr. Freddie Billanes.
This was followed by a flag raising and wreath laying ceremony at the President Manuel A. Roxas Monument led by Mayor Ronnie Dadivas and other city officials.
