Rotary leaders inspect PHP 3.8M ISUFST training projects

BAROTAC NUEVO, Iloilo — Two Rotary International Global Grant projects worth a combined PHP 3.8 million underwent an inspection on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, as Rotary International District 3850 Gov. Carlo Joseph E. de la Cruz and officers and members of the Rotary Club of Iloilo visited the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) laboratories at Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology’s (ISUFST) Main Campus-Poblacion Site.
The delegation, which included Rotary Club of Iloilo President Dr. Rye Halili, inspected the facilities and equipment supporting the Automotive Industry Modernization in Iloilo (AIM Iloilo) project, funded under Global Grant GG2570858, and POWER UP: Project for Optimized Workforce-Readiness Through Equipment and Resource Upgrade for Professional Certification, funded under Global Grant GG2682848.
CIT students welcomed the visiting Rotarians upon their arrival.
The laboratory tour was followed by a lunch meeting prepared and served with the assistance of selected Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) students.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for university officials and Rotary representatives to exchange updates, discuss the projects’ progress and explore further collaboration.
The two projects are supported by an ongoing partnership among ISUFST, the Rotary Club of Iloilo under District 3850, the Rotary Club of Namweon Central in South Korea under District 3670, and Rotary International District 3850.
The collaboration aims to expand opportunities for hands-on training, professional certification and practical skills development among students and community members.
Through AIM Iloilo, ISUFST upgraded its automotive training facilities with industry-grade equipment for hands-on instruction.
The project, formally turned over in March 2025, provided approximately PHP 1.89 million in equipment, including vehicle lifters, diesel and gasoline engines, welding machines and a digital oscilloscope.
POWER UP further expanded the partnership through modern electrical and electronics equipment supporting technical skills training and professional certification.
The second grant, also worth approximately PHP 1.89 million, was formally turned over in March 2026.
Its equipment includes electrical installation trainers, digital multimeters, soldering stations, function generators and solar power training systems aligned with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) certification standards.
The POWER UP project is expected to benefit more than 450 students and community learners annually, including those from farming, fishing and low-income households in nearby communities.
During the visit, the Rotary delegation observed how the two Global Grant projects had progressed from project proposals and equipment acquisition to upgraded laboratories and learning resources for ISUFST students and community beneficiaries.
The Oct. 30 inspection underscored the continuing partnership between ISUFST and Rotary, which seeks to translate international collaboration into practical learning opportunities.
Through the upgraded facilities, the university aims to provide students and community learners with training that reflects the equipment, technologies and competencies required in modern workplaces. (Herman Lagon | Jhomar Baladhay | Lorena Castronuevo | Gerry Binayas | PAMMCO)
