THE THIRD oldest Rotary Club in the Philippines celebrated its 90th anniversary last April 29, 2023, at the equally historic Hotel de Rio in Iloilo City. RI District 3850’s Rotary Club of Iloilo has been in the pursuit of “serving above self” since 1933 with thousands of renowned Ilonggos, on top of which is founding father Former Vice President Fernando Lopez, under its tutelage.
During the rites, Outgoing President Dr. Wilangelo Mana-ay said: “As we celebrate our granite year, let us reflect on our legacy of service, embrace our present impact, and ignite the flame of Rotary’s future. Together, we have woven a tapestry of goodwill, connecting communities, and transforming lives.”
“Let us continue to lead with compassion, inspire with dedication, and empower with action. As we embark on the next chapter of our journey, let our 4-Way Test guide us in our quest for building international relationships, improving lives, and creating a better world. Here’s to 90 years of making a difference, and to the limitless possibilities that lie ahead!”
The evening affair was participated in by scores of Rotarians and Rotary Anns, representing the different sectors of the industry. It started with a Eucharistic Mass celebrated by Ref. Fr. Mamerto Alfeche, OSA. Thereafter, the Rotarians revisited the history of the club over three decades through Past Presidents Dr. Jaime Manila, Accountant Roberto Pison, and Dr. Manny Posecion. The Past Presidents were also given recognition before the younger generation of Rotarians. The nonegentinial program ended up with the awarding of five wheelchairs, an RI Grant given by District 3850, to its five recipients and their family.
Incoming President Engr. Jesus Anayas, for his part, said, “a 90-year milestone is a testament to resilience, solidity, and the lasting impact of a relationship, accomplishment, or institution.” He added that this celebration symbolizes the strength and stability that comes with 90 years of existence of the Rotary Club of Iloilo, making it a fitting representation of this significant granite anniversary.
