The Rotary Club of Iloilo (District 3850) has donated a used Nissan FE6 engine with transmission to the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) to enhance hands-on learning for the Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) Automotive Program.
Rotarian Ricardo Chua Jr. personally delivered the unit to the ISUFST Main Campus on Oct. 29, 2025.
The donation was formalized through a Deed of Donation signed by RC Iloilo President Dr. Encio T. Lucio and ISUFST President Dr. Nordy D. Siason Jr., who is also a Rotarian.
Valued at PHP 30,000, the engine will serve as a live training platform where students can strip, assemble, diagnose, and maintain a working powertrain—bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world application.
“This gesture reflects Rotary’s mission of Service Above Self—empowering young Filipinos through tools that fuel both skills and hope,” said Dr. Lucio.
“Our labs get stronger each time industry partners invest in real equipment for real problems,” added Dr. Siason, expressing gratitude for Rotary’s consistent support.
The handover builds on previous Rotary-backed upgrades at ISUFST, including a PHP 1.89-million AIM Iloilo Global Grant for Automotive, which equipped the university’s automotive labs with tools and machinery.
The ongoing PHP 1.8-million Project POWER UP for Electricity and Electronics, also backed by Rotary, continues this partnership.
Faculty development has paralleled infrastructure upgrades, with Automotive faculty member Melchor P. Licera Jr. completing a 20-day training program in South Korea in October 2024.
A similar skills training for an Electrical Technology professor is being arranged through Rotary District 3850, initiated by Past District Governor John Michael “Kano” Ng.
This continuing collaboration aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (Quality Education), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Together, the grants, faculty training, and today’s engine donation translate partnership into practice: improved labs, upskilled faculty, and graduates who are ready to work, learn, and serve. (Herman Lagon | PAMMCO)
