ROXAS CITY, Capiz – “Kayus” or a kind of root crop mixed in caldo or rice porridge is being blamed for the purported food poisoning of 17 persons.
The victims from Barangay Lacaron, Dao, Capiz were taken to Sen. Gerry Roxas District Hospital (SGRDH) in Dao town after they experienced stomach ache, vomiting, and dizziness after eating the caldo.
According to Merlita, 82, they felt dizzy and later vomited after eating the caldo or “langkuga” she cooked.
Merlita said a root crop that she believed to be “alupisan” which her son brought from Panitan town may have caused the poisoning.
Nine victims are still in the hospital while the rest were sent home.
The Rural Health Unit of Dao will conduct an investigation as to the cause of the food poisoning.
According to Dr. Kim Marie Dumosdos, Municipal Health Officer, no report of the food poisoning reached her office.
She said that they will coordinate with the management of SGRDH regarding the incident.
