A rookie policeman was arrested after causing a commotion at a bar in Estancia, Iloilo, on the evening of Jan. 28.
The 27-year-old officer, holding the rank of police patrolman, is a resident of Barangay Sabang, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, and is currently assigned to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Station in Estancia.
According to Major Marvin Buenavista, chief of the Estancia police, the officer, referred to as Patrolman Rick (not his real name), was drinking with several civilian friends at Taklad Resto Bar in Poblacion Zone 1, Estancia.
At around 8:30 p.m., Rick reportedly became unruly, prompting calls for assistance.
Fellow Maritime police officers Patrolmen John Lourenz Corvera and Gil Siegfried Fabella Jr. responded to the scene to calm him down.
However, Rick allegedly punched Corvera and Fabella multiple times without provocation.
The officers subdued Rick to prevent the situation from escalating further and placed him under police custody.
Buenavista confirmed that Rick was in civilian clothes and unarmed during the incident.
A criminal case for alarm and scandal has been filed against the officer, who is expected to post bail.
