Roger Federer is out of the Wimbledon stage.
As surprising as it is, the 20-time Grand Slam champion lost against world no. 14 Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in three straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, 6-0, to end his stellar run on the grass surface this 2021.
Hurkacz immediately put on the pressure on Federer and had one simple game plan at the start of the match, and that’s to negate the Swiss Maestro’s ability to control the net area.
The Polish lawn tennis star dealt tons of problems for Federer as he shot his forehand with confidence.
Hurkacz’s tremendous service game was also a factor in the match as he tallied 10 aces in their duel including an impressive 59 percent first serve winner rate.
Federer had the chance to tie the set at one game apiece but Hurkacz once again had a late offensive run that gave him the second set and match for a 2-0 lead.
Hoping for one last run on the grass-court after an injury-plagued 2020 season, Federer has yet to decide whether he will give it another go in the upcoming 2021 US Open scheduled on August 30.
