Robbers take PHP 13,646 from Barotac Nuevo gas station

ILOILO CITY — Two armed men took PHP 13,646 from a gas station in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, on the evening of Sept. 18, police said.
The robbery occurred at Shen Shen Gas Station in Barangay Tinorian.
According to police reports, attendants John, 27, of Barangay Pulao, Dumangas, and Andrea, 25, of Barangay Ilaya, Zarraga, were serving other customers when the two men arrived around 6:35 p.m.
Each armed with a handgun, the men casually approached the attendants and announced a holdup, police said.
The men were reportedly wearing motorcycle helmets and sweatshirts.
The attendants complied without protest and handed over the station’s earnings totaling PHP 13,646.
A substantial portion of the station’s earnings had reportedly been remitted before the robbery.
The men left without other customers realizing a robbery had occurred, according to reports.
The attendants did not immediately seek help.
A barangay tanod was reportedly several meters from the station when the robbery occurred.
He learned of the robbery only after the men had sped away on a motorcycle.
Barangay tanods are community peacekeepers who help maintain local peace and order and serve as first responders, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Capt. Francis Layog, Barotac Nuevo police chief, said officers immediately launched a pursuit after receiving the report at 7 p.m. Friday, but the men had already escaped.
Layog said police had identified persons of interest in connection with the robbery.
He declined to provide details while the investigation was ongoing.
