Paving the way for economic growth and safety ground in northern Negros Occidental, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office is expediting the widening of Bacolod North Road.
Citing a report from District Engineer Abraham C. Villareal, DPWH-6 Regional Director (RD) Lea N. Delfinado said the improvement project involves widening of 2.16-kilometer portion of Bacolod North Road, specifically in Sagay City, with a contract cost of ₱52.87 million funded under the District’s FY 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA) Regular Infrastructure Program.
“We are undertaking the widening from two (2) to four (4) lanes along Bacolod North Road, with 3-meter wide Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) along both sides of the existing 2-lane road in order to provide a seamless and more comfortable transport access to our motorists and the riding public,” RD Delfinado said.
RD Delfinado said that the widening project is roughly 90 percent accomplished and is expected to be completed in October 2021, despite the inevitable impact brought about by COVID-19 pandemic and the erratic weather condition.
“DPWH is progressively surmounting the challenges and we are committed and confident that this road improvement project will be finished as scheduled,” RD Delfinado said.
District Engineer Abraham C. Villareal said the road widening project will heighten road safety among motorists as well as the people in the community as additional lanes are added in this fast-paced highway, providing lanes for both fast- and slow-moving vehicles.
Engr. Villareal added that “this improvement will have a substantial benefit in in faster delivery of goods and services, relatively giving employment opportunity to the people and creating economic development in the area.”
DPWH is continuously undertaking significant widening efforts along the 163-kilometer Bacolod North Road, which is a major north-south lateral highway in Negros Occidental, connecting Bacolod City to San Carlos City. (DPWH-6/RPAIO)
