One of the most prized basketball players in Guimaras wants to change every Guimarasnon athlete’s mindset when it comes to the world of sports.
A member of the Philippine Navy Basketball Team, RL Cartel said he has learned a lot from the experiences he had before reaching his current status.
During another episode of the Guimaras Players’ Center Sports Academy, Cartel shared the ups and down of his basketball career.
Cartel wanted to instill the mindset of being a champion to his fellow Guimarasnons.
When asked what advice he would give to his co-athletes during the crucial parts of the game, Cartel smirked and answered with confidence:
“Maghampang ka, ano bala ang nagasulod sa utok mo? Magdaog. So every game, dapat panumdumon mo nga kaya nyo magdaog.”
Cartel further added that losing should never be an option and should never cross your mind during the game, “ang pagdaog lang gid dapat ang sa utok mo, wala na iban.”
Moreover, Cartel insists that his fellow Guimarasnons should also develop this kind of mentality to reach their goals and be successful.
“Wala excuses, give your 100 % effort sa pag umpisa ka pito asta sa pagtapos. No reason for losing kung bal-an mo nag practice ka, sino bala ang indi gusto magdaog? Wala,” Cartel emotionally said.
For those of you who are not familiar with Cartel, he served as the shifty and crafty starting point-guard for the Guimaras Leopards during the 2019 Dinagyang Basketball Cup where he led the Leopards to a semi finals berth.
