Rider killed after motorcycle rams into parked van

A motorcycle driver was killed after his vehicle crashed into a parked wing van evening of Dec 15, 2020 in Zarraga, Iloilo.

Police identified the victim as Nicole Dadal, 35, of Barangay Abangay, Dingle, Iloilo.

He was rushed to Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town where he succumbed to multiple head injuries.

Lieutenant Johnny Arnad, Zarraga police chief, said Dadal, who was employed as a truck driver, was on his way home when the incident happened.

The victim was navigating Barangay Inagdangan around 9:30 pm Tuesday when he tried to overtake a sedan.

He tried returning to his lane but lost control of the motorcycle.

“He could have been speeding that’s why he wasn’t able to control his motorcycle as it overshot the road,” Arnad said.

Dadal, who was wearing a crash helmet, crashed into a parked wing van. He was thrown off his motorcycle, which landed on a shallow ditch.

Arnad noted that the wing van was parked on the shoulder of the road with its hazard lights on and an early warning device was also placed several meters from it.

The driver and owner of the van had already offered settlement to Dadal’s family.
