Rider injured in Barotac Viejo motorcycle collision

ILOILO CITY — A motorcycle rider was injured after another motorcycle struck him from behind late Monday morning, Aug. 3, in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.

Police identified the injured rider only as “Manny,” 22, of Barangay Poblacion, Barotac Viejo.

Manny sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision.

Reports said Manny was traveling home from the public market when a motorcycle driven by Kevin, 20, of Barangay Vista Alegre, Barotac Viejo, hit him from behind.

The impact pushed Manny’s motorcycle into a Honda TMX tricycle traveling in the opposite direction.

The tricycle driver, identified only as “Richard,” 39, a seafarer from Barangay San Geronimo, Barotac Viejo, was uninjured.

His tricycle, however, was damaged.

Manny suffered a head injury and was taken to Gov. Niel D. Tupas Sr. District Hospital in Barotac Viejo for treatment.

Police took Kevin into custody after the collision.

Capt. Francis Batallones, chief of the Barotac Viejo Municipal Police Station, said Kevin was later released after the legally prescribed detention period expired.

Manny’s family expressed willingness to discuss a possible settlement after doctors declared him out of danger.

Batallones said neither Manny nor Kevin had a driver’s license at the time of the collision.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
