A 25-year-old motorcyclist died hours after being involved in a road crash late Dec. 26 in Guimbal town.
Police identified the victim as alias Nonoy, a resident of Barangay Baras, Guimbal.
PCapt. Melvin Mercado, Guimbal police chief, said Nonoy was traveling from Miag-ao and was on his way home when his motorcycle collided with a multicab in Barangay Baras at about 11:30 p.m.
Mercado said closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage showed the motorcycle encroaching on the opposite lane and colliding with the multicab traveling in the other lane.
The rider was taken to a hospital but died the following morning, Mercado said.
Mercado said police released the multicab driver after initial settlement talks with the rider’s family.
“The family saw the incident through the CCTV footage. That’s why they also declined to pursue any legal charges against the multicab driver,” Mercado said.
Police said the rider was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
