Rhenz Abando is back in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
After parting ways with the Anyang Red Boosters last May 23, 2024, the high-flying athletic swingman is set for a reunion with the basketball club, announced on July 29, 2025.
“Rhenz Abando is back! The player who won the championship with Anyang is returning. We look forward to his great performance this season and appreciate your support!” posted Anyang on their official social media accounts translated in English.
Following the exodus of the young Filipino talents in Korea and Japan, Abando decided to test the waters overseas and was tapped by Anyang to become their Asian import in 2022.
Abando quickly turned heads in Korea fresh from a convincing collegiate career in the Philippines, taking the KBL by storm with his mesmerizing dunks and athletic ability.
All the fruits of his labor were reaped during the next season when Abando and Anyang claimed the 2023 KBL championship title. During that season, the Filipino superstar had his most promising run as an Asian import when he also bagged the KBL Slam Dunk title and the KBL 3×3 championship.
However, on May 23, 2024, Anyang confirmed that they parted ways with Abando after both camps failed to negotiate regarding the terms of his contract.
For more than a year, Abando didn’t suit up in any professional basketball leagues but received call-ups from the Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team and the Strong Group-Pilipinas.
Before reuniting with Anyang, Abando helped Strong Group defend their William Jones Cup championship and steered the PHL-based organization to an undefeated campaign.
Abando is expected to be with the team before the training camp kicks off as the upcoming KBL season will begin this October.
