Renowned Ilonggo writer Alain Russ Dimzon has been sworn in as the new part-time commissioner representing the Hiligaynon language in the Commission on the Filipino Language (Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, KWF).
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. presided over the oath-taking ceremony of Dimzon, a multi-awarded poet, fictionist, and lyricist who currently works for the Iloilo Provincial Government.
Dimzon replaces Jesus Insilada as the Hiligaynon language representative in the KWF.
His appointment was approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on December 2, and his term will run until January 6, 2027.
This marks Dimzon’s second appointment to the same position, following his initial designation in 2019 during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
As a commissioner of the KWF, a government agency tasked with advancing Filipino and other Philippine languages, Dimzon is responsible for ensuring the development, preservation, and promotion of the Hiligaynon language at the national level.
In his role, he brings the voice of Hiligaynon language and literature into national discussions and policy-making processes.
The appointment of a multi-awarded Ilonggo writer underscores the significance of Hiligaynon literature, culture, and identity as integral components of the country’s national heritage.
Dimzon is the author of seven books of Hiligaynon poetry.
