A 54-year-old retired teacher died after he was hit by a motorcycle late afternoon April 23 in Pototan, Iloilo.
Roy, a resident of E. Guanco Street, P. Ledesma Ward, Pototan, was crossing the road in Barangay Rumbang when a motorcycle hit him.
The incident also injured the motorcycle driver, Nelson, 72, a retired seaman and resident of Gran Plains Subdivision in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Maj. Dominic Parreño, Pototan police chief, said the victim came from Iloilo City and was on his way home when the incident happened.
Roy and his driver-companion stopped near the Iloilo Provincial Hospital to buy barbecue from a roadside stand.
Since they parked on the other side of the road, Roy crossed toward the grill stand.
He was crossing in front of their parked vehicle when he was hit by the Yamaha XV1600 cruiser motorcycle driven by Nelson.
Roy sustained injuries to his body and head and was brought to a nearby hospital.
However, he did not survive.
Nelson suffered a leg injury and was brought to Don Jose Monfort Medical Center in Barotac Nuevo town.
He was placed under hospital arrest and was later brought to the police station after receiving treatment.
Parreño said Nelson is now detained and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
