BACOLOD City – Personnel of the resort and hotel where the Chinese tourist who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) stayed are now under quarantine.
Negros Oriental Provincial Health Office (PHO) head, Dr. Liland Bustamante-Estacion, said the hotel in Dumaguete City and the resort in the town of Dauin ordered their employees to stay put while waiting for the medical team sent by the Department of Health (DOH).
Estacion said the owners of the establishments cooperated while all of the employees were placed on “home arrest.”
The two establishments, however, requested not to be mentioned in media reports.
Meanwhile, Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo assured the public that they are in control of the situation and appealed for the province’s residents to stay calm.
Degamo also said the province is ready to respond to the virus, and their provincial hospital has already setup its own isolation areas.
The governor also reminded the public to practice proper hygiene and constant washing of hands as a preventive measure against the virus.
Earlier, a 38-year-old woman from Wuhan, China tested positive for the 2019-nCoV.
The patient is reported to have traveled to Cebu via Hong Kong on January 21, and later traveled to Dumaguete City.
The woman is now confined at a hospital in Manila.
