Resort guest claims losing P1.9 M in cash, jewelry to burglar

An executive of a private firm claimed to have lost almost P2 million in cash and jewelry while billeted in a resort in Passi City, Iloilo.

Rafael Agcaoili, 62, president of AESO International Trading Corporation, reported the incident to the police around 7:40 a.m. on April 18.

Agcaoili said he woke up at around 5:30 a.m. and noticed that his sling bag placed on a monobloc chair was already missing.

The bag contained P400,000 cash.

His wristwatch worth P1.4 million, necklace valued at P80,000, bracelet worth P50,000; and a ring priced at P6,000, all placed on the bedside table, were also nowhere to be found.

Agcaoili said he tried looking for the items but to no avail.

It was gathered that Agcaoili, together with around 20 employees, occupied the whole second floor of Pintados Inland Resort.

The group was in Passi City for the opening of AESO Trading’s latest business venture, a farm supplies store.

Lieutenant Colonel Aaron Palomo, Passi City police chief, said there was no sign of forcible entry in the room.

But Agcaoili said the suspect could have entered the room through the window.

The complainant told investigators that he decided to open the windows to catch some fresh air.

His room was facing the road but is dimly lit and covered by tree branches.

Palomo said there was no security camera in the area.

He said they’re now investigating the veracity of the report.

Police investigators are gathering information and evidence to corroborate Agcaoili’s claims.
