ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Residents of Barangay Talon here on Tuesday found a hand grenade that was buried about 20 years ago.
Punong Barangay Virgilio “Yoyo” Santos immediately informed Police Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo Jomuad Jr., Roxas City Police Station chief, of their find.
Santos said the grenade was owned by a retired member of the Philippine Army who died years ago.
Santos said the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team of the Roxas City PNP, who responded to the call for assistance, stopped the digging while waiting for the arrival of the Capiz Provincial EOD Canine Unit (Capiz PECU) led by Major Yolando Lago Jr. to ensure the safety of the residents.
The Frag M26 grenade is now in the custody of the Capiz PECU for proper disposition.
