ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A rebel surrenderer committed suicide by hanging Wednesday morning while in the custody of the Army’s 3rd lnfantry Division (3ID) in Camp Peralta Jamindan, Capiz.
Gaudioso Batoy, 42, single and native of lbajay, Aklan was found hanging on a talisay tree by fellow surrenderers at around 9 a.m.
Batoy was one of the 310 members of the Revolutionary Proletariat Army-Alex Bongcayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) that returned to the fold of law on Sept. 8, 2019.
The surrenderers turned over to the government some 207 assorted firearms and explosive devices.
While at the custody of the military, the surrenderers underwent 2-month training for Special Active Auxillary (SCAA) at the military camp.
Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte is set to visit Camp Peralta on Sept. 19, 2019 to have a dialogue and formal demilitarization of the rebel returnees.
Batoy’s body is in a funeral home in Jamindan, awaiting his family from Mindoro province.
