BACOLOD City – The Guihulngan City Local Task Force – End Local Communist Armed Conflict (GCLTF-ELCAC) in Negros Oriental reported that another alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA), and seven alleged members of the group’s Yunit Militia (YM) surrendered Sunday.
They voluntarily yielded to the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB), Guihulngan City Police Station, 704th Mobile Company of 7th Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) headed by Mayor Carlo Jorge Joan Reyes, at GCTF-ELCAC Office in Barangay Poblacion.
The Army said that the former rebel was identified as a Squad 1 member under Sentro De Grabidad (SDG) Platoon, Central Negros 1 (CN1).
The unit operates under Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor (KR-NCBS) of the Leonardo Panaligan Command-NPA (LPC-NPA).
Three of them turned over a .38-caliber revolver with six rounds of live ammunition, two .357 caliber revolvers with 11 rounds of live ammunition, and another .38 caliber revolver with six rounds of live ammunition.
According to the Army, the number of surrenderers in Guihulngan City TF-ELCAC is increasing since August, based on their records.
At present, there are 42 surrenderers, including eight regular NPA members, nine Yunit Militia members, and 25 mass supporters, with seven firearms and assorted live ammunition surrendered, the Army said.
Lieutenant Colonel Melvin Flores, 62nd IB acting commanding officer, said they appreciated the initiative of these former rebels to return to the folds of the law.
“This is the outcome of right information provided to the populace and collaborative effort among the Guihulngan City TF-ELCAC,” he added.
Flores assured them that they will be given financial assistance and livelihood package as part of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the national government and the programs being provided by Guihulngan City TF-ELCAC.
