The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Region VI has ordered local government units to carry out preemptive evacuation in anticipation of Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong).
RDRRMC-6 Chair and Office of the Civil Defense Region VI Director Raul Fernandez issued Memorandum No. 89, Series of 2025, directing all provincial, city, and municipal governments in Western Visayas to evacuate residents in high-risk areas ahead of the typhoon’s expected impact.
According to PAGASA, Uwan is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday and may bring widespread heavy to torrential rains and strong winds across much of the country.
The typhoon is described as very large, with a diameter stretching from Batanes to Bohol, which could cause significant effects even in areas distant from the storm’s center.
As a result, all local disaster risk reduction and management councils in Region VI were instructed to conduct preemptive evacuations in high-risk barangays and coastal zones.
They were also directed to activate their emergency operations centers and coordinate closely with the regional DRRMC operations center.
Other instructions include preparing evacuation centers and stockpiling sufficient food, water, medicine, and health supplies.
Timely and accurate warnings must also be disseminated to communities, especially to vulnerable groups.
Fernandez said the directive is intended to minimize casualties and damage from the super typhoon.
For coordination, the RDRRMC Operations Center may be reached at ocdrc6@gmail.com, region6@ocd.gov.ph, or via mobile and Viber at 0949 806 1115.
The Office of Civil Defense Region VI also urged the public to stay alert, follow official government advisories, and cooperate with local authorities.
