The 21-year old Regen Albacete was charged before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutors Office for reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and damage to property,
Major Ciriaco Esquilarga, Pototan police chief, said the case was filed late morning of Tuesday, a day after the collision happened at Barangay Amamaros, Pototan.
As of this writing, Albacete has yet to post bail for his provisional liberty.
Albacete, a resident of Barangay Hibao-an Sur in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, was driving an Isuzu truck that collided with an Isuzu Mu-X sports utility vehicle.
The incident claimed the lives of couple Emil and Merren Pagtolon-an, both 36 years older and residents of Barangay Bagacay, Passi City.
Investigation has revealed that the couple came from Iloilo City and were on their way home when the incident happened.
They allegedly overtook a wing van but failed to get back to their lane.
They eventually collided with the truck, which was running in the opposite direction.
The SUV’s front part was totally wrecked.
Merren was rushed first to the hospital as responders had a hard time pulling Emil out who got pinned inside the vehicle.
Both, however, did not survive.
Three young children aged 2, 5, and 7 years old were left orphaned.
