Rain or Shine ships Gian Mamuyac to Phoenix

One of the biggest PBA trades in the ongoing Governors’ Cup conference just happened.

On July 16, 2026, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters traded former team captain and star guard Gian Mamuyac to the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in exchange for a first-round pick in the PBA Season 53 draft.

To receive the PBA board’s approval, Rain or Shine had to add its second-round pick in the same draft, finalizing the deal for both sides.

According to multiple sources, Mamuyac and his camp requested a salary increase for his next contract extension, but the Elasto Painters could not accommodate the request because of financial constraints.

The negotiations reached a stalemate, forcing Rain or Shine to find suitors for Mamuyac when the import-laced conference began.

After a thorough internal discussion, the Elasto Painters decided to give the Phoenix trade the green light, officially ending Mamuyac’s four-year tenure with the franchise.

The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagle was selected fifth overall in the 2022 PBA Rookie Draft and was praised for his two-way efficiency coming out of college.

Because of his relentless work ethic and leadership at a young age, the shooting guard was named Rain or Shine’s team captain in just his third year.

Mamuyac slowly transformed into a reliable offensive threat and became one of Rain or Shine’s top players, averaging 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.

His last game in Rain or Shine’s dark blue uniform came on July 7, 2026, during the team’s disappointing 131-108 loss to the Blackwater Bossing.

Little did Mamuyac know that his stat line of 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists would be his final contribution to the franchise that drafted him.

After playing under head coach Yeng Guiao, Mamuyac will move to a rebuilding franchise led by Charles Tiu and team up with Ricci Rivero, Kai Ballungay, Tyler Tio, Sean Manganti, and import B.J. Johnson.
