The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) and the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) formally announced their upcoming partnership on Jan. 16, 2026.
In an official press release posted on social media, the PNVF confirmed that it will be having a series of collaborations with the PVL, including a highly anticipated open tryout for the Alas Pilipinas Women’s National Volleyball Team.
“This initiative aims to provide a unified pathway for top volleyball talents across the country to represent the Philippines on the international stage,” the PNVF wrote.
Furthermore, this off-season development will mark a significant leap for other aspiring volleyball players, as the PNVF has announced that the tryout will be open to pro PVL players and collegiate rising stars.
The merger also shut down rumors of intensifying friction between the two volleyball organizations, notably during the start of the PVL Reinforced Conference when the PVL slammed the PNVF for the delay in approving the International Transfer Certificates (ITCs) of the teams’ foreign imports.
Previously, both groups had already worked side by side, specifically during the AVC Challenge Cup, when the PNVF board tasked the PVL to select the pool for the women’s national team.
However, further details of the open tryout are yet to be announced, including eligibility rules and the preferred age group by both parties.
Questions were then raised about whether this newly formed collaboration signifies the disbandment of the current Alas Pilipinas national team pool, following a string of short campaigns, including the Southeast Asian Games.
“This partnership is a significant step toward the betterment of Philippine volleyball,” the PNVF continued.
“Strengthening collaboration between national, professional, and collegiate programs. Together, PNVF and PVL are committed to developing elite athletes, expanding opportunities, and building a stronger future for Philippine volleyball.”
