BACOLOD CITY — A 34-year-old Purok 5 chairwoman in Barangay Lina-on, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, was shot dead by five unidentified people outside her home Tuesday night.
Initial police investigation revealed that the perpetrators, reportedly armed with long firearms, arrived and instructed family members to go inside the house.
While the suspects were talking to the victim, gunshots were fired.
The suspects fled, leaving the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.
She was declared dead at a hospital.
Police, along with personnel from the Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion (IB), responded to the area to investigate the incident.
An empty 5.56 mm rifle cartridge case, an empty cartridge case, two deformed 7.62 mm bullets and a deformed 7.62 mm slug were recovered from the scene.
Authorities have yet to determine a motive.
Meanwhile, in Kabankalan City, a 42-year-old farmer “Sunny” was hacked to death after a misunderstanding in Purok Tamlang, Barangay Camingawan, on Tuesday.
The victim and 28-year-old suspect “Red” were having a drinking session after harvesting rice crops when a heated argument ensued.
They were both pacified momentarily.
However, when the victim was about to leave, the suspect ran toward him and allegedly attacked him.
The victim succumbed to injuries to the head and neck, according to police.
Police Capt. Sammy Gasataya, deputy chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, said appropriate charges are being readied against the arrested suspect.
