The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) confirmed that they will be releasing the discount cards for national athletes and coaches starting now.
These discount cards that the PSC planned a few months ago can be used to avail a 20-percent discount on transportation, hotels, restaurants, medicine, and some leisure activities.
Aside from discount cards, PSC also had booklets to go with the cards and will be available for all in September.
Among the national athletes that already claimed their discount privileges were world boxing champion Nesthy Petecio and Olympian marathoner Mary Joy Tabal.
“National athlete privilege, excited to avail this! Thank you Philippine Sports Commission for making this possible,” posted Tabal on social media.
During the start of the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PSC faced major financial blows and was forced to slash down the athletes’ and coaches’ national allowance by 50 percent.
Thinking of a way to give back, PSC chairman William Ramirez arranged their proposal of handing out discount cards to their athletes.
