The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) passed a proposal to the Department of Health (DOH) and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) to reintroduce sporting activities under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
The Filipino FIRST, or the Filipino Fitness and Recreational Sport Reintroduction Tool, was a study presented by the PSC who was headed by Dr. Randy Molo, one of PSC’s Medical and Scientific Athlete Services sports science professionals.
Dr. Molo’s study aims to reintroduce sports under GCQ while maintaining safety standards among the athletes and the community.
During the proposal, the PSC presented conditions to be met during sporting activities on different community quarantine levels.
Although no specific sporting activities were mentioned in the proposal, the PSC said that what they handed out to DOH and IATF-MEID will cover the general aspect of sports.
“We know that sports and physical activities are still very important to strengthen one’s immune system during this COVID-19 health crisis.” said PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez.
