Both the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) agreed to endorse and support the resume of practices for the four Tokyo-bound PH athletes.
After the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases approved the resume of practices for both basketball and football in the country, both the POC and PSC are also trying to do the same for the national athletes who qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Plans on the PH athletes’ resumption of training were discussed via a virtual board meeting of the PSC board, POC President Representative Bambol Tolentino, and POC Secretary-General Atty. Ed Gastanes.
During the meeting, it was decided by both the PSC and POC that it would be best if the training for the already qualified athletes for Tokyo would resume as early as now.
Boxing’s Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno, gymnast Carlos Yulo, and pole-vaulter EJ Obiena will be backed by the two sports governing bodies with their bid in representing the country in the most prized sporting event.
“We initiated the meeting with POC with the good of our national athletes in mind. Lagi ‘yan priority, as Chairman Butch Ramirez always says. COVID-19 notwithstanding, we must never lose sight of our goal to give our best for our first Olympic gold,” said PSC Officer in charge Commissioner Ramon Fernandez.
