The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Iloilo Provincial Statistical Office is urging the public to remain vigilant following reports of fraudulent phone calls and online messages from individuals impersonating representatives of the National ID system.
According to the PSA, scammers are attempting to collect personal and sensitive information by pretending to assist with Digital National ID or eGovPH account registration.
The agency said these individuals use deceptive tactics such as unsolicited video or audio calls, as shown in screenshots included in the PSA advisory, which feature suspicious email addresses like “debbieannecastro.philsys@gmail.com” and “infophilsys205@gmail.com.”
“All National ID–related services are provided exclusively by authorized PSA personnel and through official government channels,” the PSA emphasized.
“Any unverified individual or entity requesting personal data, passwords, or access to mobile devices should be treated with extreme caution and immediately reported.”
The agency reiterated that it does not engage third-party individuals or private entities to conduct National ID registration or eGovPH account setup on its behalf.
The PSA also reminded the public about the legal implications of misusing personal information.
Under Section 19 of Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, individuals who unlawfully collect or disclose personal data may face six to 10 years of imprisonment and fines ranging from PHP 3,000,000 to PHP 5,000,000 (about USD 53,000–88,000).
The law likewise penalizes individuals who willfully disclose their own personal data in violation of the Act.
To report suspicious activity or verify official communications, the PSA encourages the public to contact its official channels.
