BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental — The Philippine Statistics Authority in Negros Occidental said it used a quiz bee for on-the-job trainees to promote gender awareness and inclusivity among students preparing to enter the workforce.
In a press release dated April 1, the agency said it successfully hosted the “GAD-to-Know: Quiz Bee: OJT Edition” on March 24 in Bacolod City.
The event gathered on-the-job trainees from various local colleges and universities.
According to the PSA Negros Occidental Provincial Statistical Office, the activity was designed to test participants’ knowledge of Gender and Development, or GAD, concepts, rights, and statistics.
The competition unfolded over three rounds of questioning.
Mariane Gabrido of STI West Negros University placed first.
Elyza Aligaen of CHMSU – Alijis finished second.
Jane Brylle Malunhao, also of STI West Negros University, took third place.
Janifer R. Visitacion of BCC – Taculing Campus placed fourth.
Joseph T. dela Vega, also from BCC – Taculing Campus, rounded out the top five in fifth place.
The PSA described the contest as both an intellectual exercise and an advocacy activity.
The office said “GAD-to-Know” is one of the PSA’s flagship advocacy programs aimed at mainstreaming gender perspectives in the statistical community.
By focusing on interns, the office said it wants future professionals to enter the labor force with a stronger foundation in gender equality and sensitivity.
The program reflects a broader push by public institutions to introduce gender-related concepts early in professional training, particularly for students who may later work in government, research, and data-driven fields.
