The Philippine Statistics Authority Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office successfully conducted an orientation on PSA-LGU Data Sharing (PLDS) and Philippine Standard Industrial Classification (PSIC) code updates for the local government of Guimaras on July 16, 2025.
Participants included representatives from the offices of the municipal treasurers and the business permits and licensing offices of the province’s five municipalities.
The event was also attended by Vicente Alfred Aaron Andaya of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, highlighting the partnership between DILG and PSA in facilitating LGU data access and supporting the institutionalization of PLDS and the Provincial Product Accounts.
“Through this special initiative under the PLDS, we aim to collect business register data from our municipal LGUs and match them with the PSA’s List of Establishments,” said Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare.
“More importantly, this activity helps strengthen our partnership with local government units by promoting collaboration through data sharing,” she added.
Discussions focused on an overview of the PSA-LGU data sharing initiative on the Statistical Business Register, including its processes, expected outputs and relevance to local development planning.
The session also covered the 2019 updates to the Philippine Standard Industrial Classification codes, a vital reference for classifying the economic activities of business establishments.
In her remarks, Losare emphasized the importance of improving the quality of local data and fostering greater cooperation between the PSA and LGUs.
“This orientation is not just about data collection—it’s about building stronger, data-informed partnerships between the PSA and our local government units,” she said.
“Through the PLDS and updated PSIC codes, we are equipping LGUs with tools to better understand their local economies and contribute more effectively to national statistical development,” Losare added.
The event aimed to equip LGU focal persons to classify business data by economic activity, align local business categories with national standards and support the ongoing improvement of the country’s business register system.
The PSA and local government units reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration and continued support for advancing data-sharing initiatives, ensuring accurate and timely economic statistics that benefit local development planning and policymaking.
