PSA Negros trains teams for 2027 mapping

BACOLOD CITY — The Philippine Statistics Authority in Negros Occidental completed a four-day provincial training on Project 1Map to prepare updated local boundaries for the 2027 Community-Based Monitoring System and future censuses and surveys.

The Provincial Level Training on Project 1Map: Updating of Boundaries and Enumeration Area Delineation and Merging was conducted from Sept. 21 to 24, 2026.

The activity followed the completion of the 2026 Map Research Activity and focused on updating and adopting city and municipal boundaries obtained from local government units.

The resulting boundaries will serve as the basis for mapping activities supporting the 2027 CBMS and subsequent PSA censuses and surveys.

Accurate and consistent geographic boundaries are critical to statistical operations because they help ensure households, communities and establishments are properly assigned to enumeration areas during government data collection.

The training strengthened the skills of hired personnel in resolving intercity and intermunicipal topological errors, including mitigated errors involving Map Boundary Issues.

Participants were also trained to prepare QField projects for field verification, process field-verified projects and review and consolidate processed map boundary layers.

The exercises required participants to ensure the quality of their outputs and apply a consistent approach in checking and verifying map data.

The training also covered map boundary disputes, delineation and merging to deepen participants’ technical knowledge of geospatial mapping.

Lectures, discussions and guided practical exercises were used to reinforce the concepts, procedures and techniques introduced during the program.

Information Systems Analyst I Kate C. Capilitan of the PSA Geospatial Management Division served as the trainer from the agency’s central office.

Capilitan also led a discussion and hands-on exercise on addressing Map Boundary Issues at different levels.

Senior Statistical Specialist Ramon M. Locsin spearheaded the provincial training.

He was joined by Information Systems Analysts I Mark L. Itones and Benjie Lee P. Serinas, as well as hired Map Data Reviewers and Map Data Processors.

PSA Negros Occidental said the training forms part of its continuing efforts to ensure that personnel are technically prepared to produce quality geospatial outputs for the agency’s statistical operations.

The activity also supports the broader use of updated geographic information in future PSA surveys and censuses, where reliable boundaries help reduce coverage gaps and overlapping enumeration areas.
