BACOLOD CITY — The Philippine Statistics Authority Negros Occidental Provincial Statistical Office has started provincial training for the 2025 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry and the 2025 Survey of Tourism Establishments in the Philippines, as it prepares field personnel for nationwide data collection beginning this month.
The training is being held from April 13 to 17, 2026, at Acacia Hotel in Bacolod City.
A total of 21 Statistical Researchers and two Receipt and Control Clerks are taking part in the training.
The PSA said the provincial training is intended to equip the researchers and clerks, who will serve as the primary workforce in the distribution, collection, and data processing of the two surveys, with the knowledge and skills needed to carry out their roles effectively.
The Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry is one of the PSA’s designated statistical activities and is used to generate key data for economic planning and analysis.
The agency said the survey is designed to collect and generate information on the levels, structure, performance, and trends of economic activities in the country.
The 2025 ASPBI is the 52nd in the series of annual establishment surveys conducted nationwide.
The Survey of Tourism Establishments in the Philippines, meanwhile, is designed to gather information on the characteristics, operations, and performance of establishments engaged in tourism activities.
According to the PSA, the tourism survey provides key indicators on tourism supply and capacity, inventory of facilities and services, employment, revenue, and other measures relevant to planning and policy formulation by both government and the private sector.
Both the ASPBI and STEP will be conducted nationwide beginning April 2026, using 2025 as the reference period.
The surveys will cover selected establishments serving as sampling units, drawn through a stratified systematic sampling design to ensure representation across industries, geographic areas, and establishment sizes.
The PSA said ASPBI results will be used in constructing national and regional income accounts of the Philippine economy.
The same results will also support the formulation and monitoring of plans and policies tied to national and regional economic goals.
The business survey will also help determine and compare regional economic structures and performance.
It will likewise be used in analyzing the economic performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises and in conducting market research and feasibility studies.
For the tourism sector, the PSA said STEP results will provide inputs to the compilation of the National Accounts of the Philippines and the Philippine Tourism Satellite Accounts.
The survey will also contribute inputs for Measuring Sustainable Tourism indicators.
In addition, STEP results will help address the data needs of the Department of Tourism and support assessment of resources and available infrastructure in the tourism sector.
The PSA called on both the public and private sectors to support the field operations as they begin.
It particularly urged establishments selected as sample respondents to participate by providing accurate and timely information.
The agency said the cooperation of respondents is vital to generating reliable data that can serve as the basis for informed decision-making, policy formulation, and programs supporting economic growth and the tourism industry.
