The Philippine Statistics Authority Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office (PSA-Guimaras) released its 2020 Statistical Handbook on Women and Men: Guimaras on December 14, 2020.
The 2020 WAM: Guimaras is the second edition of the publication prepared by the PSA-Guimaras Provincial Office.
It presents the provincial and municipal latest available gender statistics through tables and graphs with short explanatory texts and brief analyses highlighting important features of the data.
The publication contains five chapters with municipal data and 14 chapters with provincial data on Population and Families; Employment; Education; Health, Nutrition & Vital Statistics; Violence Against Women and Children; Women Empowerment; Transportation; Tourism; Social Services; Senior Citizen; Children and Youth; Poverty and Human Development; Agrarian Reform; and Public Order and Safety.
Through this publication, the PSA-Guimaras hopes to contribute to the government’s efforts in furthering gender mainstreaming and in fulfilling the various international gender-related commitments of our country.
One of the government’s thrusts for the advancement of women is the promotion of the 1979 Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and widening its reach among policy makers, planners, and other stakeholders.
The CEDAW defines what constitutes discrimination against women and sets up an agenda for national action to end such discrimination.
“It is our wish that all concerned sectors would be able to make use of this publication in the formulation of effective plans, programs, and policies for the advancement of women in Guimaras province,” Losare said.
“We acknowledge with deep gratitude our partners for their generous support in providing data for this publication and we look forward to comments and suggestions from users on how we can further improve the quality and usefulness of this publication,” Losare added.
