The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office wrapped up the second week of enumeration for the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) which officially started on the first day of September.
“PSA-Guimaras deployed hired/trained Enumerators, guided by the Team Supervisors and Census Area Supervisors to conduct enumeration for the whole month of September, and closely monitored by their Head CAS (regular PSA staff). So far, the 2020 CPH operation went well in the Island Province with the assistance and support of the Local Officials,” Provincial Statistical Officer Nelida B. Losare said.

During the pre-enumeration, hired enumerators assigned in each barangay made a courtesy call with the Barangay Captains before conducting the survey operation.
“With regard to the Island Barangays, the Municipal Mayors provided the team with the Bantay Dagat pumpboats for the carriage of survey forms and the enumerators who were assigned in the enumeration areas,” Losare said.
PSA- Guimaras reminded all ENs, TS, and CAS the wearing of 2020 CPH uniform with IDs for proper identification and strictly adhering to the minimum health standards by mandatory wearing of facemask and face shield, practicing proper hygiene & proper hand disinfection with alcohol, and observing social distancing during the interview, not only for the safety of the respondents but also for their own.

“Problems and difficulties in the field were inevitable especially on the first few days of the enumeration, some barangays required field personnel to use gloves during their field operations as part of the barangays safety health protocols, hence the office resorted to providing them what they needed,” Losare said.
Other complications during the enumeration period such as issues on the maps, boundary conflicts, and locked-down areas due to the rising COVID -19 cases were resolved by the Head Census Area Supervisors of PSA-Guimaras and concerned Barangay Officials.

“The safety of everybody is one of the top priorities as this 2020 CPH is being conducted amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and the enumeration on some lockdown areas were put on hold until the barangay officials give consent to conduct the census,” Losare stressed.
Meanwhile, 159 (71.62%) of the 222 enumeration areas (EAs) in the province have been surveyed, of which 4 EAs were completely enumerated. On the average, thirty percent (30%) of the projected provincial households were already interviewed.
“This undertaking will not succeed without the cooperation and support of every household in the country specifically in Guimaras. For this reason, the PSA urges the public to support and actively participate in the 2020 CPH,” Losare said. Sama na, Census na!”
