The Philippine Statistics Authority–Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office and the Provincial Statistics Committee members in Guimaras will join the nation in celebrating the 36th National Statistics Month this October 2025 with the theme “Accelerating the SDG Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All.”
The NSM is observed every October by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 647 signed by President Corazon C. Aquino in 1990.
“It seeks to promote awareness and appreciation of statistics as a vital tool in policy formulation, decision-making, and development planning,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
“This year’s theme underscores the role of data in mobilizing collective action to accelerate the pace of progress toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals,” Losare added.
In Guimaras, the celebration is anchored on the Second Guimaras Data Festival, which serves as a platform to showcase the value of statistics in governance and development.
Throughout October, the province will hold a monthlong series of activities designed to engage government institutions, academe, youth, civil society, and communities in strengthening data appreciation and statistical literacy.
The celebration will officially open on Oct. 6, 2025, with the Data Festival Opening Program and ribbon-cutting of the Data Expo at the Municipal Tourism Building, Jordan Wharf.
Activities across the month include the dissemination of the Guimaras Ecological Profile 2024, the 2nd Guimaras Research Conference at Guimaras State University, the observance of World Statistics Day, the Provincial Statistics Committee’s Data Pitching Challenge, the Community-Based Monitoring System Phase II dissemination, and the #KabataanFirst Data Summit 2.0.
Students and youth will be engaged in statistical oration, poster-making, digital poster-making, an NSM Jingle Dance, and stat quizzes, while other sectors such as local government officials and senior citizens will participate through specialized fora, quizzes, and advocacy engagements.
The monthlong celebration will culminate with the Closing and Awarding Ceremony in the last week of October.
Losare emphasized that the observance of the 36th NSM and the staging of the Second Guimaras Data Festival reaffirm Guimaras’ strong commitment to advancing a data-driven culture, saying “Statistics are more than just numbers—they are instruments for empowerment, progress, and change, and through this year’s activities we aim to promote greater awareness of the value of data in governance and everyday life and to ensure that all Guimarasnons—from students to senior citizens—are part of this movement toward evidence-based development.”
“By mobilizing data for all, we can collectively accelerate the pace of progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in our province,” Losare added.
PSA Guimaras enjoins stakeholders, government agencies, local government units, academic institutions, non-government organizations, and the public to support and actively participate in the activities of the 36th National Statistics Month.
The agency also encourages everyone to follow the official Facebook pages of PSA Guimaras and the Provincial Government of Guimaras for updates and announcements on the monthlong celebration.
