The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office (PSO Guimaras) conducted a three-day Provincial Level Training on the Assisted Step 1 Registration of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) in the province of Guimaras on Jan 11-13, 2021 at the Stargazer Inn, San Miguel, Jordan.
The said training was attended by eight (8) Data Collectors and two (2) Field Supervisors together with three office based PhilSys personnel of PSO Guimaras, as well as Supervising Statistical Specialist (SSS) Vicente G. Geonanga and Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare.
The Provincial Level Training on the Assisted Step 1 Registration of the PhilSys aimed to prepare and guide the hired PhilSys Assisted Step 1 Registration Data Collectors and Field Supervisors on the performance of their daily tasks and responsibilities.

Additionally, the training aimed to:
1) familiarize the participants with the PhilSys Act, its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), and implementation plan;
2) ensure that participants understand and are able to apply the key concepts, definition of terms used, and guidelines related to PhilSys;
3) equip participants with skills needed to operate the Step 1 Registration tablet;
4) familiarize participants on Step 1 Registration procedures; and 5) inform participants of the prescribed health and safety standards to mitigate risks related to COVID-19.

Resource persons for the said event were PSO Losare, SSS Geonanga, PhilSys Admin Supervisor Danielle Immanuelle T. Escaran, Admin Aide Michael C. Esprago, and Information Systems Analyst I Paul Ely T. Rivera.
COVID-19 Test Team Head Zenard de la Cruz and Medical Technologist Cristy Jornadal of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) of the Province of Guimaras provided the participants with the necessary information on the health emergency protocols of the province including proper donning, removal, disposal, and disinfection of PPEs and other registration equipment, fixtures, and supplies as well as the COVID-19 status of the province.
The Assisted Step 1 Registration of the PhilSys, which involves Data Collectors conducting house-to-house interviews on pre-identified barangays in the province with high poverty incidence to collect demographic data of Filipinos will start on Jan 18, 2021.
PhilSys will deploy eight (8) Data Collectors: two (2) in Buenavista, two (2) in Jordan, two (2) in Nueva Valencia, (1) in San Lorenzo, and one (1) in Sibunag with the goal to pre-register 30,240 Guimarasnons on the first quarter of 2021.

Applicants aged 5 years old and up who have been pre-registered will be given appointment slips for the Step 2 Registration of the PhilSys on the second quarter of the current year, which involves the capture of front-facing photographs of applicants, complete set of fingerprints scans, and iris scans; however, pre-registered individuals below 5 years old shall proceed to the Step 2 Registration when they reach the age of 5.
