PSA conducts midnight census for Bacolod’s homeless

BACOLOD CITY – The ongoing 2024 Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (POPCEN-CBMS) aims to update population statistics at both local and national levels, as well as to revise social registries for beneficiary targeting.

It also supports evidence-based planning and project implementation at the city and municipal levels.

The census covers all households, housing units, institutional living quarters, temporary shelters, and homeless individuals.

In line with this, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Negros Occidental, in coordination with the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Mobile Patrol Unit, conducted its 2024 Midnight Census.

The effort focused on counting the homeless population, which will contribute to future plans and programs for Bacolod City.

The operation was divided into two teams.

Team A covered areas including the Bacolod Public Plaza, the Cathedral area, and the streets of Rizal, Cuadra, Araneta, Magsaysay, Lizares, Hernaez, Locsin, Luzuriaga, and Lopez Jaena.

Team B covered Circumferential Road, the Bacolod City Government Center, BS Aquino Drive, Capitol Park and Lagoon, and the streets of San Juan, Gatuslao, Gonzaga, Mabini, and Lopez Jaena.

The 2024 Midnight Census successfully surveyed 127 homeless individuals—91 males and 36 females. This effort, led by PSA and supported by the BCPO Mobile Patrol Unit, was a key part of the broader 2024 POPCEN-CBMS operation.

The PSA-Negros Occidental encourages the public to support the ongoing 2024 POPCEN-CBMS by welcoming PSA enumerators and providing truthful and accurate information.

The PSA assures the public that all data collected will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and in compliance with data protection laws, rules, and regulations.
