PSA chief supervises labor, overseas Filipino surveys in Negros

MURCIA, Negros Occidental — Philippine Statistics Authority Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa recently conducted field supervision for the October 2026 Labor Force Survey and 2026 Survey on Overseas Filipinos in Barangay Alegria, Murcia, Negros Occidental.
Mapa, who also serves as national statistician and civil registrar general, visited the province as part of the ongoing nationwide survey operations.
The Labor Force Survey collects household data on the country’s workforce and generates statistics on employment, unemployment, labor force participation and other key labor market indicators used in government policymaking and economic planning.
The Survey on Overseas Filipinos collects information on Filipinos who traveled abroad for any reason from October 2021 to September 2026, including those who left for employment during the five years preceding the survey.
The survey estimates the number and socioeconomic characteristics of overseas Filipinos, including overseas workers, as well as the cash and in-kind transfers received by their families and the methods used to remit them.
To help ensure data quality, Mapa supervised field activities with OIC Regional Director John F. Campomanes, Supervising Statistical Specialist Diesah S. Biaoco and Provincial Focal Person Resty John M. Bancruz.
The team visited Barangay Alegria and observed sample households being interviewed by a PSA statistical researcher.
Mapa observed the enumeration process, engaged with respondents and reviewed how data were being collected.
He emphasized the importance of accurate and reliable data and adherence to established survey procedures.
Mapa also commended field personnel for their dedication to producing high-quality statistics.
