BACOLOD CITY — The Philippine Statistics Authority-Negros Occidental Provincial Statistical Office registered 679 people during a two-day one-time, big-time National ID registration activity in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
The activity, held April 24-25, was designed to bring National ID services closer to beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, or 4Ps, who need valid proof of identity to access government assistance and other public services, the PSA said in a May 12 press release.
The on-site registration helped reduce barriers such as travel time and transportation costs for residents, especially those from underserved communities, according to the PSA.
The turnout reflected growing awareness of the National ID system among 4Ps beneficiaries and showed the value of bringing registration services directly to communities, the agency said.
The National ID system, also known as PhilSys, is the government’s foundational identification system for Filipinos and resident aliens. The PSA says the system is intended to make public and private transactions easier by providing secure and reliable proof of identity.
The PSA and the Department of Social Welfare and Development have been working to bring National ID services to 4Ps beneficiaries, including through Family Development Sessions. The agencies previously said the initiative allows the PSA to provide PhilSys registration and ePhilID issuance by reaching beneficiaries during scheduled 4Ps activities.
The Negros Occidental provincial office said the San Carlos City activity also supported its efforts to expand National ID coverage, strengthen coordination with local government units and promote inclusive access to essential government services.
The PSA encouraged the public to monitor upcoming schedules as its National ID registration team continues to roll out similar one-time, big-time activities across local government units in Negros Occidental.
