The Police Regional Office 6 has stepped up security preparations across Western Visayas ahead of the summer travel season and Holy Week under its Ligtas SUMVAC 2026 campaign, with police saying the operation is meant to protect travelers during a period of heavier public movement.
PRO6 said a travel surge is expected from March 29 to May 31, 2026, as families and friends return home or travel for Holy Week, Philippine Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Labor Day, Flores de Mayo, fiestas and other celebrations.
In response, the regional police office said it will deploy personnel in strategic areas, including churches, transport terminals, seaports, airports, major highways, tourist destinations and other crowded places across Western Visayas.
Police Assistance Desks will also be set up to provide immediate support to travelers and other members of the public during the peak travel period.
PRO6 said patrols, checkpoints and intelligence monitoring will be intensified to deter criminal activity and maintain peace and order as travel activity rises across the region.
The Regional Highway Patrol Unit 6 will also deploy road safety marshals and conduct inspections at bus terminals and other public transport hubs as part of the security and safety buildup.
Police Brig. Gen. Josefino D. Ligan, PRO6 regional director, urged the public to cooperate with authorities, remain vigilant, secure their homes before leaving and follow traffic and safety regulations.
“We want the public to travel and celebrate with confidence. Our personnel are fully prepared to respond to any situation to ensure everyone’s safety and security during the summer vacation and Holy Week. With vigilance and cooperation from the community, we can ensure a peaceful and worry-free holiday for all,” Gen. Ligan said.
