BACOLOD CITY — The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region reported no untoward incidents during the observance of Ninoy Aquino Day on Friday.
Authorities monitored a prayer and flower-offering activity from 5:35 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. at the Ninoy Aquino Monument along Araneta Street in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City.
About 40 participants from the Federation of Urban Poor People’s Organization-Negros Inc., or FED-UP, attended the activity.
Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, PRO-NIR director, commended the public for its discipline and cooperation, as well as police personnel and partner stakeholders for helping maintain peace and order.
As part of its security and public safety operations, PRO-NIR deployed 1,650 personnel to strategic areas across Negros Island.
The regional police maintained heightened visibility through mobile, motorcycle, and foot patrols, traffic assistance, checkpoints, border control, Regional Standby Support Force personnel, and other security measures.
“The peaceful observance of Ninoy Aquino Day demonstrates what can be achieved when police personnel, partner agencies, local governments, and community work together with discipline and mutual respect,” Cardiño said.
Ninoy Aquino Day, observed every Aug. 21, is a special nonworking holiday under Republic Act No. 9256 commemorating former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
The observance fell on Friday, Aug. 21, in 2026.
PRO-NIR said it remains vigilant and ready to respond to security concerns while respecting the constitutional rights of every Filipino.
