BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) recently expanded its CampuSaya initiative to Negros Oriental and Siquijor to strengthen efforts against school violence, address online threats and promote a safe learning environment for students.
The initiative was launched at Dumaguete City National High School in Barangay Calindangan, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, on Oct. 29, followed by a similar event at Dogukanan sa Capit in Caipilan, Siquijor.
In his message, Police Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales, PRO-NIR director, emphasized that school safety is a shared responsibility that requires more than police presence.
He highlighted the importance of building school communities where learners feel protected, accepted and respected while encouraging students to report threats and bullying, seek help when needed and look after one another.
Reales also urged parents, educators, partner agencies and community leaders to translate their commitment into sustained action in every classroom and community.
“Let us teach our children that strength is not measured by how much fear we can create, but by how much protection we can provide,” he said, underscoring the need to cultivate a culture of kindness, respect and zero tolerance for violence.
Derived from “Campus na Masaya,” CampuSaya is a comprehensive school violence prevention initiative that emphasizes early identification of warning signs, responsible reporting of threats, strengthened campus security and coordinated action among schools, families, law enforcement and community stakeholders.
The program focuses on three key components: mental resilience, peer protection, and enhanced campus security and emergency response.
It also encourages students to report bullying, suspicious activities and online threats through appropriate channels while promoting cooperation among teachers, parents, police and local government units.
The initiative aims to strengthen preventive measures and early intervention to address potential threats before they escalate into violence.
In October, PRO-NIR also launched the initiative in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, beginning at Bacolod City National High School on Oct. 22 and Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School in Talisay City on Oct. 23.
The regional police aim to expand the campaign to approximately 2,400 school campuses across Negros Island Region, which comprises Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
