BACOLOD CITY — The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region has tapped 2,197 personnel across the region as part of its intensified security and public safety preparations for the observance of the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence on Friday.
The police personnel will be deployed and strategically positioned in key cities and municipalities, focusing on convergence areas hosting flag-raising ceremonies, civic and cultural programs, wreath-laying activities, and other large public gatherings.
“Sa paggunita ng Araw ng Kalayaan, patuloy na pinagtitibay ng PRO-NIR ang ating tungkulin na tiyakin ang kaligtasan ng bawat mamamayan. Hinihikayat natin ang lahat na makiisa at makipagtulungan sa ating mga kapulisan upang mapanatili ang mapayapa at maayos na pagdiriwang sa buong rehiyon” (In observance of the Independence Day, we continue to strengthen our mandate to ensure the safety of the public. We encouraged everyone to unite and cooperate to authorities to maintain a peaceful and orderly celebration across the region), said Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, acting PRO-NIR director.
The regional office will also establish enhanced police visibility, mobile patrols, checkpoints, traffic assistance, and police assistance desks in major areas to ensure peace and order.
The comprehensive security plan, in coordination with concerned local government units, event organizers, and partner agencies, was designed to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of activities while safeguarding public safety and minimizing inconvenience to the public.
The deployment also supports the SAFE NIR Dial 911 program, which strengthens rapid response, coordination, and public assistance across the region.
SAFE means Seen, Appreciated, Felt, and Extraordinary.
The Philippines observes Independence Day every June 12, commemorating the country’s declaration of independence in 1898.
Meanwhile, the Bacolod City government announced that a temporary road closure and traffic rerouting will be implemented on Friday in some parts of Megaworld’s The Upper East for the Independence Day Civic-Military Parade from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Motorists were advised to follow designated rerouting schemes, observe traffic signs and road closures, and follow the instructions of traffic personnel in the area.
The public was advised to plan trips ahead, use alternative routes if necessary, and cooperate with authorities to ensure a smooth and orderly Independence Day celebration.
