BACOLOD CITY — The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region has mobilized more than 2,000 personnel to secure the observance of Labor Day across the region on May 1 in anticipation of protests and assemblies.
Labor Day is a regular holiday in the Philippines and is traditionally marked by workers’ activities, job fairs, and rallies calling attention to labor issues.
The security deployment includes augmentation from other law enforcement units and force multipliers to ensure heightened police visibility.
All deployed personnel have been directed to observe the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and maximum tolerance, with strict adherence to established police operational procedures and respect for human rights at all times.
The regional office said checkpoint operations and border control points have been prepared, while Civil Disturbance Management contingents and the Reactionary Standby Support Force have been prepositioned alongside the full activation of other critical law enforcement functions.
The deployment covers Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
The Negros Island Region consists of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor, with Bacolod City classified separately as a highly urbanized city.
PRO-NIR aims to ensure that all Labor Day activities across the region are conducted in a peaceful, orderly, and secure manner.
Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, called on all participants, organizers, and stakeholders to uphold their shared responsibility in preserving harmony by conducting activities in a lawful, peaceful, and orderly manner anchored on mutual respect and civic consciousness.
“Sa paggunita ng Araw ng Manggagawa, buong galang naming kinikilala at pinangangalagaan ang karapatan ng bawat mamamayan na magpahayag at magtipon nang mapayapa,” he said.
Coordination with local government units, partner agencies, and community stakeholders has been strengthened to ensure a unified and responsive approach in addressing any situation that may arise.
“Hinihikayat namin ang lahat na isagawa ang kanilang mga aktibidad nang may disiplina, paggalang, at pagsunod sa batas,” he said.
Ibay assured the public that police personnel are ready to maintain peace and order.
