PRO-6 to deploy 6,552 personnel for Undas security
By Jennifer P. Rendon
ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) will deploy 6,552 law enforcement personnel and force multipliers across Western Visayas to ensure public safety during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, collectively known as Undas.
PRO-6 announced Monday, Oct. 19, that the personnel would be deployed from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 to secure cemetery visitors, travelers and motorists during the three-day observance.
The deployment will consist of 3,284 police personnel, 1,170 personnel from other law enforcement agencies and 2,098 force multipliers.
Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) will augment the police deployment.
Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs), local government personnel and traffic enforcers will also assist in maintaining peace and order during Undas.
PRO-6 said police units would be placed on full alert to ensure public safety and provide immediate assistance during emergencies.
Personnel deployment will be maximized to ensure that officers can respond promptly to incidents requiring police intervention.
Of the police personnel assigned to specific locations, 799 will be deployed to cemeteries, memorial parks and columbaria.
Another 283 officers will secure churches and places of worship, while 192 will be stationed along major thoroughfares.
Police will also assign 146 personnel to transport terminals and 176 to tourist destinations and other places where large crowds are expected to gather.
In addition, 718 police officers will conduct mobile patrol operations, while 970 will be assigned to checkpoints along major routes.
The security deployment will cover 292 cemeteries, memorial parks and columbaria across Western Visayas.
PRO-6 identified 193 public cemeteries, 89 private cemeteries and one columbarium among the facilities covered by its security preparations.
Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, PRO-6 regional director, also directed field commanders to establish 265 Police Assistance Desks (PADs) in strategic locations.
The assistance desks will serve as contact points for visitors seeking police assistance, reporting incidents or requesting emergency response.
Tuaño emphasized the importance of early preparation and coordination with local governments and partner agencies to ensure public safety during Undas.
“Alam nating mahalaga sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino ang Undas dahil ito ang panahon upang dalawin at alalahanin ang kanilang mga yumaong mahal sa buhay. Ang nais natin ay makadalaw sila nang payapa at makauwi nang ligtas. Kaya maaga pa lamang ay inihahanda na natin ang ating mga tauhan upang may mga pulis na handang magbigay ng seguridad at tumulong sa oras ng pangangailangan,” he said.
The regional police chief also urged the public to cooperate with security measures implemented by authorities.
“Hindi kakayanin ng kapulisan lamang ang pagpapanatili ng kaayusan. Kailangan din natin ang pakikipagtulungan ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.
Tuaño encouraged travelers and cemetery visitors to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or emergencies.
“Huwag mag-atubiling lumapit sa ating mga pulis kung nangangailangan ng tulong. Nais nating maging ligtas ang bawat pamilya sa kanilang paggunita ng Undas,” he added.
He also reminded residents to secure their homes before leaving and keep their personal belongings safe while visiting public places.
Motorists were advised to check their vehicles’ roadworthiness before traveling, particularly if they plan to take long trips during the holiday period.
Drivers were also reminded to get sufficient rest before traveling and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
For emergencies, PRO-6 encouraged the public to approach the nearest Police Assistance Desk or police station or call Unified 911.
The annual Undas observance traditionally draws large crowds to cemeteries, churches and transport terminals as Filipino families visit the graves of departed loved ones.
The heightened security deployment aims to maintain peace and order, manage increased traffic and ensure that families can observe the occasion safely.
