PRO-6 to ask LGUs to pass ordinance vs unwanted noise

If Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) would have its way, it wants local government units to pass ordinances to curb unnecessary noise, especially that virtual classes and meetings abound.

Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, Western Visayas police chief, said on Thursday that he issued a directive to unit commanders and chiefs of police to coordinate with their respective local government units (LGUs) to pass an ordinance prohibiting the use of videoke, karaoke, and other sound-producing machines.

“This is our way of adapting to the changes brought by the pandemic. We must support our students who are studying from home,” he said.

Pamuspusan issued the directive after PNP chief General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan vowed to ensure that students will be able to concentrate on their schoolwork.

The study at home arrangement under the “new normal” turned barangays into huge learning spaces, Pamuspusan said.

“Once the ordinance is passed, PRO-6 assures the LGUs that its units will take the lead in the implementation of the ordinance,” he said.

The region’s top cop said the security measures which was implemented in schools during the normal classes should be expanded. It will now cover the barangays to ensure the security and safety of all students and the whole community.

He said it is PRO-6’s way of recognizing the importance of the role of the barangay officials.

It is also deemed to strengthen the police ties with the barangay through their designated Pulis sa Barangays.

“We would like our students to see that their police officers are not just concerned about the peace and order but we also take a stand to ensure quality education for them under the new normal,” Pamuspusan said.
